It’s notoriously difficult to find funding for independent short films outside of crowdfunding. Here are a few short film grants with upcoming deadlines:
Camera Ambassador Community Builders Grant
Award: $3,000 cash production fund and $5,000 gear rental credit
Eligibility: Open to U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents. Applicants must be 21+ years old and working artists with at least three years of professional experience. Submitted projects must be shot in the midwestern United States. Students with experience can apply, but must mention that they are students in the application.
Deadline: April 1, 2019
Big Picture Filmmaker Grant
The Big Picture Peoria Film Festival is awarding one filmmaker a $3,000 film grant.
Eligibility: Filmmakers must be between the ages of 16 - 36 and from the greater Peoria (Illinois) region. Read additional requirements here.
Deadline: April 15, 2019
MiTribe Short Film Fund
This is an annual short film grant from MiTribe Media to support local filmmakers in Vancouver, Canada.
Eligibility: Filmmaking team must be in Vancouver.
Deadline: April 30, 2019
Shore Scripts Short Film Fund
The Shore Scripts Short Film Fund offers an opportunity for emerging screenwriters and filmmakers to have their short film financed and produced. They accept submissions from screenwriters and filmmakers around the world.
Award: The top prize is a $10 - $15k production budget grant, free camera equipment rental and more.
Eligibility: Scripts should be within 2 - 30 pages. All genres accepted. Read additional requirements here.
Deadline: May 2, 2019
The South Carolina Film Commission and Trident Technical College invite South Carolina filmmakers to apply for INDIE GRANTS, production grants for narrative short film projects.
Award: Funding from $20,000 - $35,000
Eligibility: At least one member of the core creative team must be a native South Carolina filmmaker with a South Carolina legal address. Read additional eligibility guidelines here.
Deadline: June 24, 2019
The Visibility Fund
The Visibility Fund provides writing, production and post production grants for short and feature film projects which address one of the following themes: women’s voices, youth voices, LGBTQ themes, and identity.
The tiered grant amounts are:
Writing: $100, $250 or $500
Production: $1,000, $1,500, or $2,000
Post Production: $2,500, $3,000, or $5,000
Eligibility: Open to both novice and experienced filmmakers. Applicants must be 18+ years old. One member of the key creative team (director, producer or writer) must be a U.S. citizen.
Deadline: Grant applications open April 5, 2019 and close July 31, 2019.
